Hi there I'm new to this forum so please be kind!

My problem is in several parts:
1. Ok I've owned my ibook G4 (60 Gigs- now have 8 Gigs free, 512 ram, 14 inch, etc)
for just under a year, in that time I have'nt once attempted to burn a dvd, until now.
Basically I have tried minus dvd's & plus ones but to no avail. I put them in the drive
they make a bit of noise and generally pop out after a few minutes. Any suggestions?

2. Right here is my second part: recently I've tried using mac help, installer, & the calculator (not all at once of course!), and all of them attempt to start and open but then end up crashing. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Kieran.

A general fix to some of these problems always is repairing permissions. Go to applications>utilities>system utility and select your HD and click repair permissions. Also, try running the command "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly" in the terminal. These are the regular maintenance checks that the system executes really late at night.

And can you be a little more specific on what happens when you put in the DVD? Like what appears on the screen and such

Not to sound patronizing but are you sure you have a "DVD-RW' or just a regular combo drive? I ask this because the behavior that your describing, is typical when you insert a blank DVD into a non-burner DVD drive.

Crap I think you are right as regards the lack of dvd burning facilties. (it's the only logical thing that I can think of..)

Go to applications>utilities>system utility and select your HD and click repair permissions.
Cold Aspiration, I just tried what you suggested but it seems to doing the exact same as it does with the mac help, installer, & the calculator. It's as if the ibook goes into a stall and does'nt know exactly what to do. I even tried restart the computer and trying the repair permissions. Any other suggestions?
Thanks so far, for all the help!
