I'm really panicking here. I was downloading AIM and it would never really fully download. It would stop around 95%. I took my Powerbook out of range of my wireless network because I wanted to work outside. I left it on sleep mode for a few hours. When I brought it back in range of my wireless network I opened up the laptop to take it out of sleep mode. I realized I had left the download opened so I clicked "cancel" & then my laptop froze. I hit the power button to turn it off but then when I went to turn it back on the laptop wouldn't start. It would turn on (I could hear the hard disk spin) but it won't start. It beeps three times & the sleep light flashes 3 times. I know my battery isn't dead, not to mention I used the power adapter & it still does the same thing. What happened? I'm really concerned.

What screen size is it? 15"?
If it is a 15" then try removing the ram that is installed in the lower ram slot so that it is empty.
Make sure there is ram in the upper slot.
Does it boot now?

It is a 15" but I'm a little afraid to mess with the RAM at this point. I have a feeling I'll be making a call to Apple Tech Support tomorrow. I've only had the laptop for 3 months. Just can't beat my trusty PC that I've built myself... I feel like Apple has let me down...maybe I'm just panicking...

its just a bad ram module i think, this can happen to any computer, its just apple people are more vocal about their problems, and osx is sensitive to bad ram i think.

I want to test & see if it's the RAM but I'm pretty sure I can't because it's just one stick of 512 not 2 sticks of 256. I'm correct in assuming this right?

Well if it's only one stick of 512mb ram then i'm assuming it's in the bottom slot, which has most likely gone bad.
Try moving it to the top slot.
If it is a faulty ram slot the Powerbook should boot up and be pefectly usable.
If you want to add more than 1gb of ram in the future and you think your ram slot is faulty you will need to contact Apple and get it replaced, by which time they hopefully will have corrected the problem with the lower ram slots.

I took out the RAM and placed it in the upper slot, it works fine now! I called Apple Tech to replace the slot & unfortunately I'm over the 90 day warranty by 3 days so I would have to pay them $49 to trouble shoot it legally over the phone. What a crock! I'm hating Apple already! The only way around it is to go to an Apple Authorized service repair shop which is 30 miles away from me.
