Okay, the final deciding factor if I get a Powerbook...

I need to know if the 12-inch Powerbook G4 can.....
-copy and smoothly run all 6 Star Wars Movies
-do basic computing(internet etc) better than Windows
-be more aesthetically pleasing than pc
-not get 1,974,858,985 viruses(that is an exaggerration)
-and smoothly run a FEW games like Americas Armyand Star Wars Battlegrounds( and Empire at War if it comes out for Mac)

Thanks for the help,

Malcolm

Tried it once on a TiBook and it ran OK. Didn't really play it though. Just tested for a few minutes.

IMO, AA may not run that great on a 12" PowerBook. The video card sucks.

Yeah, not great, but OK. OTOH, there's always the new 12" PowerBook coming likely in September, with a better CPU and a better GPU.

As a person who is currently using a thinkpad as well as an imac on a daily basis I'd say go for the powerbook! Not that it is the most powerful thing around, but just imagine never having to worry about viruses, spyware etc! That, alone, is worth so much. I love the features and hardware of my thinkpad, but nothing beats the mac OS for useability, simplicity and reliability.

Just buy one and enjoy. Good luck!

I agree with pete. If you want it go get. My personal recommendation is the PB 15'. It is a great value, and compromise between desktop replacement and portability.

Yeah, I'm serious. I'm a bit put off by people asking why they should buy a Mac.

"Convince me to buy a Mac over a Dell"... Go and try one out maybe? Figure it out for yoruself.
This should be a sticky.

Nobody knows what's in the next revision, but I predict a G4 7448. This chip was announced a long time ago by Freescale and is a 90 nm chip which doubles the L2 cache compared to the previous generation. I also expect a clockspeed bump.

In addition, I'd expect a GPU upgrade, considering the current iBook's GPU is already better than the current 12" PowerBook's GPU.

I'm guessing they'll be out long before November hits.

Why do you think? I'm giving him advice... Try one out. If you like it, then buy it.

Like I've stated before, this topic should become a sticky. Not this thread, but one should be started that says:

"Why buy a Mac over a Windows Machine?" and then sticky it. It's a common question asked often... so instead of us all going through the paces again...

I'm sure Steve knows...

But yeah, if you don't need one for a couple of months, then I'd wait for the likely PB updates in September (3rd week is the Paris expo.. so that's when it's likely to happen.. i think).

And yeah.. is it just me or have the "why should i buy a mac instead of a pc" threads increased a lot recently? Has to be a good thing...
