I'd like to replace the 60 gig HDD in my 15" Powerbook 1.25 GHz with a 100 gig drive.

Is it difficult? I upgraded the RAM myself without trouble.

Can someone recommend a good HDD and/or vendor?

I have an external HDD, so making a backup and then cloning back seems a simple solution to me.

Thanks for the advice,

Mike

ps...search doesn't seem to work, I tried.

please try searching this and the peripherals forum.

the guides for disassembly of and replacement of all components in all Apple G3 and G4 iBooks and Powerbooks, as well as the Mac mini, are here:

I can't seem to figure out how to get those latches above the dvd drive to unlock. Anyone have any pointers?

Replacing the HD is nothing like adding RAM -- it's complicated and time-consuming. I'd suggest paying someone to do it.

I just replaced the disk in my 17" yesterday. It wasn't too bad, I thought it would be harder than it was. As long as you follow the instructions at pbfixit.com, have the appropriate tools, and take your time, it should not be a big deal. From start to finish it took me about 20 minutes.

Although, if you have never worked on the inside of a laptop, and are worried about messing something up, then you may want to take it in to have someone else do it.
