any feelings on whether I'd be better off running a G4 ibook 1.33Ghz on Tiger or on Panther?
I'm maxing the RAM out to 1.5GB on this machine when it comes.

Thanks for any ideas or viewpoints.

Tiger. There are very few reasons to keep Panther on a modern system.

That Mac will come set up and ready to go with Tiger (and all the iLife 05 goodies) and will run it fine, esp. with max RAM.

Even if you wanted to, not even sure how if or how you could do a "downgrade" install on that machine without reformatting.

Lots of good stuff with Tiger. You want the cat that's ready to go on that box.

Panther does not officially support the new iBook. In fact, it might not even unofficially support it properly.

I know that Panther doesn't properly support current iMacs.

Tiger. It was made with Tiger so just leave it. As Eug Wanker said, Panther isn't "officially" supported. Don't fix something that isn't broken.

As I recall, isn't one of the unique things of OS X over other operating systems *coughWin98withIE4upgradescough* that development is done as it should be, and it actually gets quicker and more fine tuned with each version? Maybe it's just a rumor... But if true, there would be no reason not to use Tiger if you had it.

sound replies all..seems that development of OS X does get faster with each release...

Is Apple moving toward some variation of snoopware (like palladium) whereby remote access can be gained by persons wanting to check out files and information? Is something like this programmed into the OS and/or hardware?

No, and there are no indications that such things are being planned for the future.

Why use the older OS? You cannot go back anyway, so the question is moot.

Tiger.
