Probably old news for most of you, but here it is anyway.

I was able to get my 12" G4 iBook's battery to last quite a bit longer by dimming the screen. Common sense says of course that this will use less power. But the difference was much more dramatic than I would have predicted.

Turning airport off also conserves power.

As well as Bluetooth.

You can also use the Energy Saver preferences to change Processor Performance to Reduced.

For those that don't know... how much of a difference are we talking about?

I probably added 20% to my battery life by dimming the screen 4-5 notches.

In the OS9 days, you could install a few apps on a ram drive and run them from there. Less disk access increased life. I don't think you can do this with OSX, though.
