Welcome! Yes, the iBook is strong and well built. You won't find it any problem to carry around, and if you take reasonable precautions, it won't play dead because you have lugged it here and there. My wife took hers to school several days a week all last spring and it never skipped a beat, even though it rode to and fro in a backpack on a luggage cart.

I picked up my 12" iBook last week and have found it invaluable. It's my first portable and I don't know how I lived without one. I feel it is very solid... and at $999, I'll be horribly sad if it breaks, but it isn't going to destroy me financially. I hope to get 36 months out of it and then pick up an x86 system.

I thinks it's a great computer, if your not going to play games or do anything "intense" then the ibook is great. The "old" ones have the HD surounded in rubber to protect your information, now the "new" ibooks have that and a system to prepare the HD for impact, to also protect your info. The plastic cover "aborbs" any hits so it won't dent. So it's very, very strong physically. The ibooks are also very fast now. And if your not even going to do things like play games then that will feel like it has AMAZING FAST speed. So yeah, I do think it's a great deal!

you stated twice that it will feel fast if your not playing games.. so if you do play a game or 2 on it, will it get awefully slow or unenjoyable?

No not at all I have the "older" version of the iBook and it runs at 1.07 Ghz (consiteribly slower than the new one), lighting fast... I play Tactical Ops (it rocks look into it) and America's Army. fairly high end games and they run fine, I can't play anything like Doom 3 (although I think you might be able to on the computer...) which is the highest end game there is for macs right now. What are the games (if there very high end your going to want to get more RAM for your computer)? But you should be fine. I said that so may times because the thread starter said he wasn't going to play any games. For sizes I think; the 12" is the cheapest and most portable, and 14" is an extremly comfortable size I can carry it around, has a better view. natually with a bigger screen, and the keys and trackpad don't all feel squeezed together (I have it and love it). One thing I will recommend is getting speakers... the sound isn't awesome on any of the laptops (the iB as well as the PB) for games, music, and videos. Any other questions?
P.S. there is a lot of other information in here, straight to the point, no it won't, I have (as I said before) a 1.07Ghz and it's fine, you'll have .26 Ghz more, which is a pretty big leap.

Don't forget that the new iBook's GPU blows the 1.07's out of the water.
Radeon 9550 >> Radeon 9200

Thanks all for your feedback.
You are all talking about the price 999$ that its worth it, I am not buying the ibook because the price, of course its important the price but still is the ibook is stable, reliable laptop, what are the advantages of Mac OS, as I wrote before I will be a new apple user and I am little bit afraid from the transition.

mac os is intuitive and easy to use, not to mention fun...the ibook is a great computer that takes lifes dings without skipping a beat...the new ibook is far better than its last revision...and for $999, its worth every penny.
now whip out your credit card and run to your nearest apple store and make up for lost time.

To find out more about the advantages of the MacOS (which most of us here take for granted), check apple.com/switch.

brettcamp deffinatly has the best place to read about OS X (apple.com/switch). But a really important part is that the OS is based off Unix code, which is the MOST realible for not crashing and being depedable upon any level you can think of. Think (this is very rough but a good way to think about it) of Mac OS X as Linux, the worlds most stable OS, with a eligant and fine skin on it... it also is compatibul with many things that Linux isn't. (If you get the idea of what i'm trying to say.
