i've seen a lot of mention of pb's switching over to intel - to a non-techie like meself, what will that mean in practical terms?

Really.


Think of it like whether you have a straight 6 or V6 under the hood. As long as your car gets the same gas mileage with the same power, you don't and shouldn't care.

Same with Intel.

Apple is just switching their chipset and processor. Since Mac OS X (the operating system software) is based on UNIX, it can pretty much run on anything. So there won't be any difference. The guts are just different. Still Apple. They use IBM currently. No biggie.

actualy wont OS X actualy run faster.. thats what the word on the street is... os X much faster on the X86 machine.. so for the same money, you would get more performance... just hope i can upgrade my 15in with an intell logic board some time in the future.... oh yeah, also longer battery life with pentium M... thats another HUGE difference...

Don't count on it. The only thing corroborating that is a report or two from SlashDot, which has more than a few people in the know questioning it.
