Ok folks, I have a wonderful Rev A powerbook g4 1.25 that I love to use. I need to upgrade the ram from my current 512mb. My issue is that I have tried two different vendors and both sticks have not worked.
These machines are apparently very picky about ram, and I need to know which brand to use. Does someone with a similar revision A have any thoughts?
The ram slots seem fine as they both work with my current 512mb sim.

You don't provide the specs or links to what memory you tried. You may have purchased the completely wrong memory for your machine. The easiest thing to do is do a RAM search at http://www.dealram.com for your specific machine to make sure you get the right RAM.

yep I kept the brands I tried out of the equation on purpose. The problem is that the Rev A machines are tough on ram. I want to know a specific brand that someone used successfully in a Rev A box rather than pick more at random from my vendor choices. I have heard mixed reviews on ram, so a specific vendor choice would be best.

I'm not talking about brands. I could give a flying fig on the brands. I'm talking about the specs of the memory. For all we know, you purchased PC2100 (DDR266) RAM to put in your machine which is too slow. It needs to be PC2700 (DDR333). If you provide links to where you found the memory you purchased, this can be checked quickly.

sigh, brand is all I want to know Steve. The issue at hand in the rev. A boxes is that they have issues with certain brands. I don't know why, but that is the word onthe street. All i want to know is the brand. Assuming another user has a working installation on a Rev. A powerbook g4 1.25, I was going to assume that they had purchased PC2700 DDR sticks. If it will make you happy, can someone recommend a brand of PC2700 DDR ram that will work specifically in a rev. A Powerbook 1.25?
I have tried OMNI and Patriot, and both were flaky. I would like to know of another of the maybe 15 brands of memory that will work.
Thanks,k

Omni and Patriot? Never even heard of those. Must be generic. What brand are the chips on those devices? Look for the markings on the chips themselves. I hate to say it, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I wouldn't purchase generic RAM. Check out DealRAM and get the cheapest non-generic you can find.

I had a Rev A and used Crucial RAM in it without any problems what so ever. It costs a little more, but it will work. Hope this helps.
