I have an iBook G4 1Ghz 12". I'm thinking of selling it and getting one of the newer iBooks, such as the 1.42ghz 14", but I'm a bit worried about the increase in CPU speed making the new iBooks run hotter and possibly noisier.

Anyone notice any heat/noise difference from the older G4 iBooks and the new ones?

Thanks.

I moved from the 12" 800mhz model to the 12" 1.2ghz and the new model is as quiet (maybe even more) than the 800. If you go with the 14" it should even run cooler than the 12". I would bet there is not significant difference in noise...

I can't really compare the previous iBook to the new, but I have a new 12" and my wife has a Dell 700m. Performance-wise they are pretty much dead even as far as we can tell (but neither of us really taxes the machines) and size-wise they are nearly identical. The 700m has the Intel Pentium M processor so it is supposed to run cooler and use less power.

I would venture to say that the bottom of my iBook never gets even half as hot as the bottom of the 700m and the iBook is always room temperature on top. It is also dead silent except for the hard drive which is not loud at all.
