Is it possible to change your internal harddrive and if so how hard is it to do?

Yes and rather hard. Do a search for something like "replace hard drive" on this forum for more info. Basically, the iBook is very pretty on the outside at the expense of being devilishly complex to assemble and disassemble. You CAN replace the hard drive, but it ain't for sissies!

It can be done.
Take some time and read up on it first…make sure you know what you have to do stage by stage. I did it…first time I ever did anything more complicated then dropping memory into a Mac. So I would say anyone can do it, just as long as they know what they are doing first. I read up on it looked at a bunch of how to assembly and disassembly guides.
I dropped a 100 gig Seagate drive into my little I book 500.
and it worked out fine.
