On August 14, 2005 we called Apple about straightening out our AppleCare Protection Plan.

Previously, we went to the Apple Store and the Mac Genius said our PowerBook was registered as being bought on May, but I bought it on August (2004) because I had purchased it from MacConnection the authorized reseller of Apple products. He managed to get our PowerBook repaired for no cost, but it showed as not under warranty charge of $0.00

When our AppleCare Protection Plan arrived, we tried to register it online, but it gave errors. Most likely because the date must be in May or something. We called Apple support and then we gave our information (Apple ID, Name, Address, Phone number, etc.) and enrollment number to the representative and he said to fax our purchase receipt from MacConenction to (512) 674-8125 at the attention of APP DOP, which we did. He said it might take a couple of weeks for it to activate. It has been almost a month and still the enrollment plan is not registered on my Apple ID.

Of course Apple doesn't put on their site anywhere their support email so I sent this to support@apple.com

I had a similar situation with Apple Care recently. I purchased a PB used and was trying to transfer the Apple Care to my name. The original owner sent out the required paper work April 29. The Apple Care did not transfer till last week. I barely recieved the transfer of Apple Care paper work over the weekend. So wait it out. It took about 4 months in my case. The wait was not acceptable by any means but it did get done.

Applecare recently told me that i didn't even have applecare for my powerbook even though i defenitely do have applecare and have called them before with no problems. But for whatever reason, this tim i called they said i didn't have applecare. But, as you can imagine, this scared the crap out of me and also made me really mad. So i would not hang up until he gave me my applecare back. Luckily i had the receipt of my powerbook and the applecare and he re-registered it for me, telling me that it would take up to two weeks. In two weeks i called back and they said i had it. So just call and ACT LIKE SOME CRAZY MANIAC! and you'll get your way.

Hate to be Captain Obvious, but why not just call Apple and find out?

Don't waste time online when a quick phone call to 1-800-APL-CARE would answer your question.

yeah, i'd definitely call. they probably have it in their records, don't rely on what you see online. those records aren't updated instantaneously.

I had decent luck with AppleCare. Bought a one year-old Pismo off ebay. Bought AppleCare after the default one-year warranty had already run out (seller lied to me about date of purchase) and still got covered for three more years, from the date of purchased off ebay. Got LG DVD replaced with a Matshita. Got a new keyboard, but it came back with a broken screen hinge shortly after AppleCare ran out. Got a yoyo replaced after it started spitting blue flames, months after AppleCare ran out.

If you have a receipt and you have definitely registered your AppleCare before 1 year after you bought the PB, you are OK. Don't fret about the details of registering it.

I have been satisfied with Apple's Apple Care performance. If you have Apple Care, it's also important to find a good authorized reseller that will treat you right in the event you have to bring your Mac in for repairs. I wasn't always a big Apple Care believer, but I now believe it to be a good investment. Next time, however, I will be purchasing it from LA Computer Company if possible.

I also recommend AppleCare, especially if you have a decent Apple Authorized Dealer/Apple Store in your area. The Apple Store in Kansas City is extremely helpful. The genius bar people are the best, they are not snobby and help with everything. On Labor day, my powerbook's keyboard broke. The "scissor" mechanism broke and tore off the soft plastic "knob" that makes the keyboard sense you pushed the key. I was worried that they might think it was user damage, especially if I called over the phone.
I went to the Apple Store Genius bar and the lady took it in for an in-house repair. They had the part in-stock, and took it in for immediate repair. After waiting about 1 hour, they replaced it with a new keyboard and everything worked great.
In the past, I had horrible service/repair over the apple support phone line, but having great service from the Apple Store makes me proud to be a Mac user and makes Applecare Extended Warranty worth it.
