Hi there,
Apologies first if this has been dealt with in the past, but a quick search suggested not.
I spilt water on my iBook last week. Yes, it was switched on and working at the time, unfortunately... I switched it off immediately, unplugged it, dried it off and waited. Now, it's booting up fine, but it's no longer recognising its battery. Or, to be specific, the icon top-right shows the battery with a cross on it, and the message is 'No batteries available'. Other than that, it seems fine. Any suggestions on what to do with the battery? I note the green battery lights underneath the iBook show it's on two lights' worth of charge, so I wonder if it's simply that the iBook isn't recognising the battery, rather than that the battery is actually dead. The first time I switched it on since the incident it booted on battery power as it wasn't plugged in at the time.
Am kicking myself still.
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Tamsin.

Where did you spill the water?
It could be that you damaged the electronics in the battery (I assume there's some type of circuit board in there).
Does the Ibook still run off the charger? It sounds like the DC board is ok etc etc.
Check for any bent pins on the battery.
If possible try someone else's battery in your Ibook and try theirs in your Ibook.
Hope this helps,
Sean

Not to offend you, but from what I read you did what you should!
You turned it off and waited for it to dry, though for how long we do not know. Typically you wait a few days according to posts unless you take a hairdryer to it.
As for your current battery issue, I can not help you as I do not know. But don't kick yourself too hard for your actions (other than spilling water on your 'book).

The water was spilled over the keyboard, I hate to say. It definitely made it past the keyboard and down into the iBook itself as when I flipped it over to drain it out, water emerged between the top and bottom halves... Not my finest hour. I waited four days, and had left the keyboard removed so that condensation didn't collect to add to the fun and games. I also had an anglepoise lamp directed at it for a bit of warmth - the hairdryer route did occur to me, but I thought it might be a bit vicious.
Ugh.
The battery is, I think, dead - I tried booting without the power supply in just a moment ago, and the light where the power goes in turned from green (mains on) to red (help me I'm dying) before the iBook went to sleep. The battery icon showed OK when I woke the iBook up with mains power back in place, but after thinking about the time it would take to charge fully, the iBook decided that the battery remains unavailable.
It's a sorry tale, isn't it?

er..
Get a new battery?
Maybe you can go to the Apple store and ask one of the friendly sales staff whether you can use one of their batteries really quickly to see whether yours is dead or your iBook is just f**ked as far as detecting batteries goes.
Hope that helps
