Welp, I'm dealing with yet another logic board that has died in my 700mhz Opaque iBook. It's covered under Apple's extended warranty for the logic board until November.

This will be the fourth time this machine will go in for a new logic board (For a grand total of five logic boards in its lifetime).

How many times does a machine have to go in until it's considered a lemon? I'd just like to be rid of this machine and would preferably like a replacement from Apple that doesn't have this issue, since it's had the same problem so many times over the lifetime of its warranty coverage.

Anyone have experience with this? Does Apple have a certain threshold before they consider an item a "lemon" for replacement? Would I have a better chance in getting a replacement if I took it to an Apple Store, or if I called Apple directly? Just looking for a little guidance from anyone else that's gone through a similar issue before.

Apple is giving a replacement on the 4th repair... So you should be able to get a brand new 1.33ghz G4 iBook.

yea, what pat++ said, after 4 repair attempts (for some reason I thought it was after 3 attempts), you get a new product. It applies for all apple products, not just the ibook
MacBook Pro | 2.16 ghz core2duo | 2gb ram | superdrive | airport extreme
iBook G4 | 1.2ghz | 768mb ram | combodrive | airport extreme
iPhone 3GS | 32 GB | Jailbreak, or no Jailbreak

Took it in this morning, and that's exactly what they're doing for me. The Genius tinkered with it for a bit (just for formality, I think, after looking up my unit's repair history) Then happily told me I'd be the owner of a new 1.33ghz iBook. So now I'm just waiting for the new machine to be delivered to the store!

Thanks for the replies.
