My friend says his powerbook won't start when the power button is pressed. He says it beeps 3 times or something.

I've never heard of anything like this. Any ideas?

You don't mention which Powerbook it is, but 3 beeps at boot indicates bad memory. If it is the 12", remove the single DIMM and try again. If it's a 15" or a 17" and you have 2 DIMMs installed, try removing one at a time and trying again to isolate which DIMM may be failing.
