I'm trying to get my Powerbook open but can't seem to get the latches near the cd drive to pop open. Does anyone have any tips on this? I'm worried I'm going to damage something...

here's a tip...if you dont know what you're doing, don't install the hard drive yourself. tip 2...if you proceed to by pass my first tip (which im certain you will), then look for guides that are available at pbfixit.com

Already called and got estimates.

I went to PBFixit.com and I'm stuck on the latches. PBFixIt says there is one, other sites say 3. I can't figure out the best angle of attack. It looks like other sites want me to come from through the cd drive slot.

have you removed ALL of the screws the guide mentions?? disconnected all of the cables/connectors? Do you have the proper tools??? I would trust pbfixit.

If you are stuck, reassamble and send it out before you do more damage.

I can't get in to remove cables.

I basically can't get the latches undone.

exactly what kind of Powerbook do you have? You need the proper tools, like a spudger. I don't understand what you are describing when you say "latches".

I actually got it open. It's all good. Forgot the screws under the battery.

Moral of the Story: Read the directions.
