I'm frantically trying to back up any data from my drive onto an external firewire drive.
Will the following drive be a replacement option for my hard drive:
I have a 12" powerbook 1ghz.
Toshiba:
80GB 5400RPM 2.5" Super Slimline (9.5mm) HDD
MK8026GAX
80GB capacity
5400RPM Rotational Speed
Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) motor drive
9.5mm High
12ms Average Seek Time
ATA-6 Interface
100MB/sec Transfer Rate
16,384KB Buffer
300,000 MTTF Hours
It is offered at 120 dollars. I need it asap. So any advice would greatly be appreciated. If you have some other suggestions can you pleace post a link. I plan to order late in the day on Tuesday. Thanks!
ps My failing drive would no longer read data from itself, so I stuck an I pack under the ever toasty drive and... it started to copy again. I must have a few minutes left...
Thanks again!

Newegg has that drive for $100. Just bought it to replace the failed drive in my Powerbook. Works great.

So after managing to back up my data. I found that if my powerbook is sitting on a table it will not read or write to the hard disk. If I tilt the powerbook onto its right side, like an L shape, then the disk behaves normally. I'm convinced that this is a drive issue. In the last couple of weeks the drive has aquired some new noises.
Could this be anything but a drive failure issue? When I ran the disk utility, it came back ok. However, if the powerbook is not on its side the disk utility will not work and I just get a spinning beach ball.

Did you leave a jumper on the drive pins? That can cause odd access issues.
