My girlfriend just told me that she awoke to her new ibook realllllly hot. She said that she left it asleep overnight with it plugged in and when she woke up, it was off, the charger light was green, and the computer was really hot. She said that it was hot all over, even on the keyboard. She couldn't turn it on and one time she held the power button down she said she heard what sounded like the fan turning on and then turning off (but it might have been the hard drive spinning). Then about an hour later she called me and told me that it's up and running. Has anyone heard of this? i'll list everything that happened in a easier to read way below.

iBook G4 14" 1.42 GHZ 2 sticks of 512 MB RAM (installed by Apple)
Office is the only program i know of that she installed bu i don't think this is the issue.
Computer was left asleep and plugged in on her desk, the next morning it was off and really hot with the charger light green.
Wouldn't turn on. Tried to wake up by hitting keyboard (thinking maybe the sleep light was just broken)
When she held the power button, it sounded like the fan was spinning (possibly the hard drive) and then died.
Later she tried again and now it's working.

Please let me know if there's anything we can do or if it's a known problem or anything! She is a mac convert and i don't want her to think that her vaio was a better computer!! ha!

Thanks for any info you can give me.

It's obviously over heated. I don't know why or how.
Is the desk well ventilated?
Was the iBook open or closed?
It should always be aslpeep when the lid is closed, and if it wasn't that could have been the reason it over heated.

The reason it wouldn't power up is because it got so hot it turned off it self defense to cool down.
Only when the iBook was cool enough would it switch on again.

It shouldn't be getting hot in sleep mode as technically it's off.

Were there any external devices plugged into it?
Bluetooth mice can cause problems.
Having a monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged into the iBook makes it switch on ready to use in clamshell mode so that could have been another reason for it being on.
