So i have this powerbook, a 15inch g4 450mHZ. I purchased this off of a friend about 6-months ago. For a while the thing ran great! no complaints except the pc card cage wasnt' working.

but then things went awry... the power adapter, when plugged in would indicate green, all the time and the battery wouldn't charge. when you removed the battery, the adapter would be green but the computer wouldn't start. it did start to make a very small and quiet hum. after my battery died months passed and my computer sat in the corner until a rainy day came along.

after a few weeks i had the opportunity to borrow a friends ibook adapter. I plugged it in and the light showed an orange color, much like the color when your battery is charging but the light on the bottom of the battery wasnt' flashing and the computer still wasn't turning on. back in the corner it went.

months passed until one day my friend left his brand new powerbook battery in my car, complete with a charge! i popped it in the computer and it started up just fine.

so what does this mean!?! i had a geeky mac repair guy tell me that the logic board cmos battery was dead, but that didn't seem to add up to me. any ideas? related stories??? only with your help will i be able to bring "the pea of the sea" back from the dead!

I think your original battery was dead and you need a new one

I would agree with ism, but it could also be a faulty AC adapter, or both. Check them out, but I'd not shell out for a logic board on an old TiBook.

Also, they never made a 450MHz version. 400, 500, 550, 667 VGA, 667 DVI, 800, 867, and 1000 were the speeds for Titaniums.

The internal battery, upon being depleted, will prevent the TiBooks from booting. When you inserted your friend's battery, it is possible that that battery began to charge and the machine started up. Pure speculation, of course, but that's what we're good at on the forums.
