Hi everyone,
I've been reading the forums for a while now, but I just now registered because I finally pulled the trigger on a new 14'' ibook and I have a bunch of questions. My apologies if this one is in the wrong forum, but here goes:

I remember back when Tiger first came out and people were installing it themselves, they'd do an custom install (or something along those lines) to get the leanest possible version of the OS, minus a bunch of stuff like printer drivers and languages. Now, my computer comes with Tiger already, I'm sure, but I'm wondering if it makes any sense to erase and reinstall it, minus all the stuff I don't need.

I got the 80 gb hard drive, so I'm not even sure that the few extra gigs make a difference, but if I was going to do it, I'd do it when the computer was new, so I thought I'd check now before it gets here.

Thanks for all the informative posts, and I hope this question makes some sense.

Oh, one other thing: I ordered 1gb of extra ram from a newegg sale the other day, and it might get here before the computer. Is there a perfect time to put it in? Before I start the computer for the first time? After I've used it a few days? Doesn't matter at all and I'm being neurotic? Thanks again.

Just chunk the memory in when you get the computer, it does not need to be "turned on" first.

I guess maybe I should repost this in the OS forum. Thanks for answering my ram question though, man.

You can put the memory whenever you want, it doesn't matter provided that the computer is shutdown
As far as your OS question, no need to bother getting a few gig back if you have a 80gb disk I guess...
You can still delete unwanted stuff after a while if you are missing some space.
