Alright, I'm looking to buy a gig for RAM for my 15" Powerbook. I'm interested why Crucial is selling what appears to be the same SO-DIMMs (DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64) for two different prices:

$211.99 found via Memory Advisor

$159.99 found via Mwave for $123.00

Obviously I'd rather buy the cheaper stuff, but I'd like it to work with my machine.
Thanks.

be sure whatever you buy that it is certified to work on a Macintosh, and it has a lifetime warranty.

alphamatrix,

Newegg has that same gig Crucial stick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145068

It is priced at just over $120. It should work fine.

I think RamJet memory chips are better for Macs because they're specifically made for them and guaranteed to work with the latest firmware.

Memory chips specifically made for Macs do not exist. They can be certified to work on a Mac at most. BTW, Crucial has very good quality memory (I bought memory for 5 Macs and never had an issue). As for the original question of this thread, why not call them and ask?

I'm just about to order that Crucial ram on Newegg, but there is a review for it there where someone says it doesn't work with their 17" powerbook. Has anyone ordered it from them?

The thing is, the "common" specs don't tell the whole story: they may not be properly programmed. Current and recent Macs demand strictly programmed RAM -- much of what's out there is not.

Crucial's advisor always points you to properly-programmed RAM for the computer you entered.

Anyhow, this has been covered a bazillion times, so I'm closing it.
