Hi guys,

Just wondering if there's a better way to trash your document. I understand that the secured way erase your data and replace part of it by something else so that you can never retrieve them by any way, but I was wondering if that method uses the HD more and could reduce its lifetime over the long run...

My Powerbook's HD is damaged and will be sent to Apple tomorrow, so I'm looking for any explanation and way to improve the lifetime of my future laptops HD...

Honestly, unless you are working for CIA, FBI or MI6, I don't see any reason to use secure delete...
To answer your question, I really doubt using secure delete actually affects the lifetime of the HD.

The only way to 100% guarantee that a document is erased is, unfortunately, to physically destroy the hard drive. Granted in order to recover a file that has been erased, written over, written over again, etc... is to put it through special processes, but at least in theory data can be recovered with anything less than physical destruction.
