i got a new ibook 12" less than a week. It says its suppose to last for 6 hrs at least when its new. My max capacity is 4420 and runs roughly 5:30 or less hrs. Ive seen other ppl get more then 4600. Should i return it for another or is this normal? thx guys, this is my first post here. Awesome forum keep it up!

Have you had a look at what Apple suggests you do to get the most out of your battery? http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
I'd think that if you followed those instructions and then were getting 5.5-6 hours, you'd be doing fine. It's definitely worth monitoring for the first few charge cycles.

6 hours is the absolute max... I don't think they are guaranteeing 6 hours by any means. Heck, if you dim your screen to the lowest or second lowest setting, and dont' touch your computer, you'll probably get six hours easily. Realistically, if you can work on your computer for 5 hours or so, you should be very pleased.

today was my second calibration and from 4420 to went up to 4580, called it a mistake or coincidence i think it was another way to increase ur max capacity. The way i did it was like this, also getting 6:02-6:04

My hypothesis:

1) use ur ibook until it shows running on reserve, dont let it sleep.
2) shutdown ur ibook.
3) after shutdown you wont be able to power it on again without plugging it in into the wall.
4) plug the ibook into the wall let it boot up and get into mac os x.
5) once ur in mac os x, pull the plug out, it will recalculate and show something like 2 minutes left.
6) even tough it shows 2 mins, it should run longer maybe 10 mins. it will also show 0% left. Let it run until it sleeps and then the capacity should increase after a full recharge.

guyz give it a try, if it works then great, theoratically it used it until the last juice else, it was just a second recalibration and its supposed to increase :-) thx guyz for the reply
