I'm just curious - I've seen some nice 400 or 500mhz Pismo's on ebay with 512mb of RAM and wondered how well they would run Panther (and I guess Tiger using Xpostfacto). I'm 90% certain I'll pay a bit more to get a used Titanium G4 but I've always had a soft spot for the Pismo.

It would be as a secondary machine for surfing and WP work to replace my dead 12" PB.

You don't need xpostfacto to run Tiger with the Pismo. My little brother uses his 500 MHz Pismo (512 MB RAM) to surf the web, do the school homework, run iTunes… it works well enough for all those purposes.

Thanks for the info, I assumed Tiger wouldn't run on the Pismo. Ah. I may save some money and get one of those then.

I've had a dual 1.25GHz G4 Powermac for a few years and got very used to the speed.. I recently purchased a 500Mhz Pismo with 512MB ram just for the purpose of web surfing, etc. After putting tiger on it (no xpostfacto required), I found it to be quite a bit snappier than I had expected.

You'll love it.

Thanks for the help everyone, but yesterday I managed to snap up an utter bargain on ebay - a Titanium G4 550mhz with 768mb RAM and 20gb HDD. So I'm rather happy!
