I've been in my dorm for little less than a week now, but I would love to watch some TV shows in my room (not everyone agrees on TV shows in the common room). Is there a way I can watch TV on my PB? Thanks.

Thanks Yonidass. Out of the Three companies, I'm guessing you would recommend EyeTV? Plextor is the only company that I know of out of the three.
Edit: Just checked out Plextors TV recorder, and though it is cheaper, it does not support Firewire. If the EyeTV recorder supports Firewire 800, that would make data transfer a lot faster right? Does it matter when your recording TV shows to your hard drive to have Firewire 800? If so, might as well pay the extra $70 to get the EyeTV recorder. Thanks!

I have the Plextor unit, which uses EyeTV's software (very good), and it's fine for my purposes. The EyeTV unit is supposed to be of slighty better encoding quality but I really don't care much when it's TV I'm recording. One advantage with the Plextor is that it can capture in Divx. Miglia's unit does the same. Eyetv has an MPEG4 option but not Divx. Having said that, high quality Divx files from the Plextor unit are surprisingly big, and not much better quality than the high quality mpeg2 setting, which lessens the advantage of divx. I've had no tranfer problems with usb2. It performs as it should.
I haven't seen recording from eyetv's unit but even allowing they're a bit better than the Plextor unit, I doubt it's a big difference. Keep in mind what you see on your computer in either case is already re-encoded and so not as clear as uncompressed or what you see on a TV screen (still I find it acceptable). That's the advantage of these units. They do the encoding and so don't tax your computer much while recording. But if you want the best picture quality and don't plan to record much, check out the Eyetv EZ. There's also a new PC card for watching TV but I can't remember the maker.

These EyeTV seem pretty pricy. (unless I'm looking at them differently. $200 for a new one correct, and $129 refurb?) Would simply buying a tv be an option?
I don't mean this negatively, but for me, for that price, I figure buying a tv instead would be a better choice, unless you're looking for a tv capture, which I assume the EyeTV that has a tv capture be a decent choice.
