Hi, I am about to buy a new computer, but I can't decide between a powerbook and ibook (thinking of 12" PB or 14" ibook). I just want to know: can iBooks handle Final Cut Pro? I will be editing all my film projects on my laptop, so it would be very helpful to know this. Thank you very much!

im sure it can handle a final cut pro as the old powerbook were along the same specs as an Ibook. But if you intend to use this as your sole computer I suggest a desktop not only will you have the power but you will have the screen real estate. And if you must go portable 17 inch or 15 powerbook.

I would find it tough to edit, using FCP, on a 12" display.

If you've got the cash a 15" pb would be best for FCP. The PC card slot is handy for adding another firewire bus. Firewire 800 as well. More memory, etc, etc.

If you can't stretch that far then the ibooks are better value than the powerbooks at the mo'. I use FCE on a 12" pb. I used to have a 4200 rpm drive as well and it still worked fine.

well i went to an apple store and tried booting FCP on their iBook 14" and took forever for it to start up, so I guess that answers my question. Thanks.

The Apple Store will have a minimum amount of ram. You'll need the max amount. Better to go with a desktop or a PB15 or 17 if you're serious.
