I mean, it will if I force it, but it refuses to reboot or shutdown elegantly from the Apple menu or after a restart-required software update. This is a brand new stock iBook (14") and it has been like this since the day I got it, and I ordered it the day the new 1.42 GHz models were released. In other words, this machine has NEVER had a shutdown or reboot that's not involved a forced shutdown from holding down the power button.
It always hangs at the last moment: all open apps quit, the dock quits and then it just hangs forever on my desktop picture. I can hear the HD whirring for a little while (under a minute) and then silence and nothing--just the desktop picture.
Done all the usual stuff: permissions, repair, even Disk Doctor. No problems reported.
Any ideas? Oh yeah, running 10.4.2. Hoping there's another option beyond a reinstall...
cheers,
