i've talked to two mac guys and numerous friends about this and all seem to agree i have a valid case for demanding a new laptop from apple - the question is, do i have any chance of succeeding?

quick overview:

14 inch iBook G4, bought late June 2004

October 04: Hard Drive crashed. Sent to Apple, came back ok.
Winter 04 - 05: Experienced problems connecting via ethernet, was determined to have a faulty jack, so it was sent to Apple again to get a new Ethernet port. Also had keyboard replaced for abnormally worn down keys (the guy couldnt believe i could type functionally on it)
July 05: Logic board failure causes screen death. Computer goes back to Apple to get fixed. Comes back, and for awhile will not charge without freezing. Goes back to Apple, they cannot determine the cause (Auth. dealer in India). Bring it to VA store and they find nothing wrong.
Sept 05: Suddenly iBook starts acting up again, freezing randomly. Can be running any variety of programs, and the comp store guy ran it off a clean drive and still got it to freeze, not sure why though. will have to go back to Apple again

Obviously i'm getting quite sick of this, and I'm going to call and complain, but what are my odds?

Thanks!

I think you have a pretty good chance of being heard if you go to the right person at Apple. Many people have had success stories when they bring their case to the "Customer Relations" people. One thing though, do you have Apple Care? because I'm seeing that your iBook's 1 year warranty has just expired.

Having said that, I would definetly phone Apple. If I were you I would give solid reasons why you would require a replacement after all this ordeal.

I've heard that all you have to do with it is take it into your Local Apple Store. The Genius will simply look at your repair history, and if you mention something to him, you should be well on your way to a brand-spanking new iBook G4 . If not, you can always be a little more forceful, and call the Better Business Bureau and complain. That should get them moving .

A while back I had an iMac 266 Rev C, purchased it new.

After a few months it started getting freaky and I took it to the local Mac shop, which was an authorized reseller, service provider etc.

They replaced one part at a time to try to isolate the problem( logicboard, PS, etc).. nothing fixed the problem. After three attempts, the girl at the shop gave me a number to call(told me to ask for a replacement machine), and I explained, in detail, all the problems, dates etc. All the work was done as a result of my AppleCare. I asked that I get my machine replaced.

A few hours later Apple called me back and asked what color iMac I wanted, and stated it would be an upgraded 333MHz Rev D. machine.

Be nice, be thorough. Good luck!
