Hello,

Have a bit of an odd problem with a PowerBook 15" here which exhibits the following symptoms only when in clamshell mode:

1) Powers up with a long tone (similar to "flash your firmware")
2) Power LED flashes rapidly 5 or so times
3) It will always boot into Open Firmware, ignoring the auto-boot env variable. Boots fine after typing in mac-boot
4) Shuts down sporadically after about an hour of work

Oddly enough, no issues when off clamshell mode, works fine as expected. Just wondering, anyone else encountered this at all?

Thanks,

Philip

Have you tried resetting PRAM, resetting the PMU, or moving RAM around? Is it one long beep or three beeps?

Tried the PRAM, no go - I'll be trying the PMU and RAM next. Unfortunately, it's one of those "nearly impossible to get your hands on" laptops whose owner uses it all the time. It's one long beep, followed by 5-6 rapid flashes of the sleep LED. I'm hoping to get my hands on it again in a few days to reset the PMU and test out different keyboards/mice and monitors on it to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

If you do not hear the normal startup chime, then read this:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58442

Although the article says that the number of LED flashes should be the same as the number of beeps.
