I've really wanted to get a new HD for my summer of 2004 1.07 GHz iBook G4. because i'm down to about 6 gigs on the 40 gig HD with me really trying to save space and delete things i would have other wise kept... I was thinking of getting a 80 gig HD, where should i get this from? who should i get to install it? and what is the easiest way to get all my info, exactly as is to my new HD (so i still have the same settings ect.)?

Shop around on the internet for the best price. Shop multiple websites using services like http://www.pricegrabber.com or http://www.shopper.com Also, check out http://www.dealmac.com (look under storage). Right now, the best price on pricegrabber is about $242.
who should i get to install it?
You can do it yourself if you're so inclined. It's not exactly easy. See the instructions at http://www.pbfixit.com (click on fixit guides). If it looks too difficult for you to do it yourself, you'll probably have to pay someone.
http://www.macresq.com will do the complete replacement, including drive, for $309 link This looks like a good deal considering the price of the bare drive.

Macresq's service includes transferring your data. That is probably your best bet. If you do it yourself, you'll need either an external case or a third hard drive to transfer the contents from one drive to another. I've used both Carbon Copy Cloner and Apple's Disk Utility to do this. They both work great.
So if you don't feel very technically inclined, try Macresq for $309. If you do it yourself, you'll save maybe $60.

thank you! macresq looks great, and for installation, transfer, and a 120 gig HD!!!! $309 isn't bad, i'm going to see if they have the same deal for a smaller drive and of coarse, cheaper...
Did you see this:
*If your data is corrupted or otherwise unable to be transferred via the normal process, you will be contacted as there may be an additional labor charge.
Upside, they'll fix your data that they a acudently lost... but... you pay for it...
again thanks this is more than i could have hoped for!

If your going to be replacing your hard drive, replace it with the largest one you can, you don’t want to have to reopen your laptop anytime in the near future.. if you have a desktop, sure get a decent sized drive, cause you can throw more in anytime you want no problem.. but if your working on a laptop, mite as well go as big as you can, sense you will be reducing the chances of damage, if you only open it up once, that’s only 1 time to mess something up, v.s. 2 times….
Hope this makes sense/helps out some.. good luck.
The install isn’t that bad, just take your time, and make sure you have the proper tools before you start, and shouldn’t be any problem at all…

thanks, i think i'm leaning towards techrestore because It doesn't even tell you the rpm of the disc... on that note it the only at vantage to getting a faster HD just faster saving? and do you see any where on techrestore about them transfering all your data?
I don't know if i don't get macresq or techrestore to replace the HD then I might try it by my self...
Thanks Again!
