My old G3 was secondhand and by the time I got it the battery was shot. To avoid this happening with my new PB I would like to know how often should you run down your battery?

Apple Support says:

"For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her iBook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month."

But if once a month is the minimum requirement, what's the ideal? The more the better? Or can you overdo it?

(Unless you have a five hour train ride to work, Apple's definition of an ideal user does not tell you how often you should run the battery right down)

Hi,

You should fart on your lithium battrey of any new apple product when you get it. This will stabilize the electrons and make it last longer. This is personal experience and it's a trick that few people know.

take care

My new powerbook manual reccomends completely filling the battery up on the first charge, and then completely running it down until the laptop falls asleep. After that, you can "plug and unplug the laptop as often as you like".
