I have a first gen powerbook with a 10gb HD. I just took a 20gb fujitsu (model #MHR2020AT) out of a Compaq notebook. Will it fit and work in my powerbook?

Define "first gen Powerbook." The first Powerbook came out in 1991-1992 and I doubt it had a 10 GB drive back then. In any case, any 9.5 mm tall, 2.5" laptop drive will work in current Powerbooks. Older Powerbooks could support taller drives. I don't remember what the height of those thicker drives was.

its a 1st gen of the titanium series. Its coming outta newer compaq/hp notebook. It looks as if it will fit. I suppose I can't wipe out the drive in the mac and I will have to wipe it off in a pc first since it was loaded with XP. Am I correct in saying that?

As long as the disk fits, you can erase and format the disk in your PB using Disk Utility from an OS X installation disk. There's no need to erase it on the PC.

im pretty sure it will fit, and if it doesnt then i think you should get a $20 external laptop hd case thing from FRY's so you can hook it into your USB port and use it as an external hard drive, thats what i did with my old 30GB when i upgraded to 80!
taking apart the laptop is a PITA though, good luck!

He doesn't have to. The titanium powerbooks have user replaceable hard drives.
