Hey,
I'm new to Macs and new to these boards so I was wonderign if you could help me out.. I was cleaning my trackpad today with dish soap (maybe not a good idea?) and I dried everything off and cleaned it up properly and now my trackpad is completely unresponsive. What did I do? Any suggestions as to what to do about this?
Thanks,
Ben

This was a pretty bad idea... anyway, try to clean it with a soft wet tissu, make sure the iBook is shutdown when you do it. Then dry it completely, and wait. Make sure you do not turn it on before a couple of hours.

Then if it's still not working properly, try to reset the Power Management Unit :

And hopefully, everything should be back to normal.

(From my experience, the responsiveness of the trackpad will come back when it's dry)

It's just wet around the edges -- water gets in the little gap and confuses it till it dries off. Give it a little while to dry and it'll be fine. (It's not that water shorted it out -- it's that water on the waterproof surface of the pad confuses it is all.)

what i did so my trackpad doesnt get dirty was to find a plastic sticker that is easy to peel off without residue, and put that on the trackpad, and so far it works great, and if it gets dirty or worn out i can just switch it
