Hi,
I didn't think the day would come but I sold my beloved Pismo 500. I definitely miss it and when I sold it I really felt sad about it. It did everything that I wanted to and never had any problems with it, but part of me felt it was just time.
i kept the 60gb hard drive, took out the 1gb memory chips and airport card, and sold those separately. In total, the sales amounted to $650. That at least made me feel better.
It's just that I couldn't justify to myself having the pismo and titanium 400 at the same time, because they were both similar machines in terms of performance. Because of the widescreen, and actually decent airport range, I would use my titanium more and more. Add to the fact that the titanium is in mint condition, I have 2 batteries that run about 5 hours each, I think I knew what I had to do.
I just wanted to thank everyone over the last couple of years who helped me out with everything, especially with the pismo. I learned a lot from everyone, and i truly appreciated the pismo when I had it. I had one prior to the one that I just sold, so maybe down the road another pismo will just come into my possession. But until then, I'll have a little space in my heart reserved for one of the best machines that Apple has built.
Thanks!

I loved the Pismo too - but my shoulder didn't. Man, that thing weighed a ton compared to what is out there now. Also, had short battery life. That said..it was rock solid construction and I loved the black plastic and curved look of it - much nicer than the ALs in my opinion. Not to mention it didn't heat up like a hotplate.

Hi,
Agree with the weight thing. It never bothered me that much, but the titanium feels much lighter, and the thinness always amazes me. The pismo had great battery life for me, 4 hours each, 8 hours when together. It was definitely solid, although I didn't care for how it would sometimes creak. That's I guess due to the plastics.
I have to say though, although I miss the speed of the aluminums, I definitely prefer the titaniums. And the only thing I prefer over the pismo from my titanium, is the size and screen.

It's odd that you say the TiBook had better AirPort range; the TiBooks are widely acknowledged as having the worst AirPort range of any Apple laptop ever made, while the Pismo ranked at the very top, alongside the iBooks.
Perhaps the Pismo's antenna was not plugged in correctly, or the antenna wire broke?

Hi,
The titanium didn't have better airport range, it's just as good as the pismo. In other words, the pismo was fine, it's just that the titanium is surprisingly good. That's why I say I am lucky! Otherwise I would have kept the pismo instead.

I guess it's like this Lombard (333MHz) I'm typing on that refuses to be sold! So I own two laptops at the moment, this and a 12" PB G4. I'm sure I'll be very sad the day I get rid of it. Glad your Pismo had a good run

Hi,
It sure did have a good run. Not too many laptops today could survive being one the bed or sofa for hours of use, but the pismo did.
I must say for sure that there would be no way that I would have sold it if my titanium was not as great as it is. Through the time that I had the pismo, I had (and then sold) many different revisions of the titanium and aluminum powerbooks. i think its amusing how i ended with the oldest machines after everything. Definitely saved some money though!
