So I have it set so it never sleeps, but over the past two days it will randomly go to sleep. I'll be reading something for a couple of minutes, then it goes into sleep, comes out of it and it might do it again a few minutes later or be fine for a few hrs. And today I come back from class and it's sleeping, but it won't come out of it. I had to take out the battery and restart my computer. Anything I can do, thanks?

Also, would reinstalling Tiger do the trick? And if I had to do that, what's the best way of backing everything up?

Just sent my 15" G4 AL back to apple for this exact problem...

Try running the Apple hardware tests that are on the Powerbook install disk 1, I got error codes on the logic board test

2STH/1/3: TRACK PAD

there are 4 or 5 others w/ the same problem on the apple support discussion bords

What environment are you running the machine in? Any chance you're blocking the cooling vents? The machine will go to sleep automatically if it is overheating. Is the fan running at full blast a lot?

I just have it on my desk, in my dorm room which is probably around 60 degrees, nothing is blocking the cooling vents. I've felt all over when it does this and it's not hot anywhere to touch.

Which machine do you have? Which AC adaptor are you using, 45 W or 65 W? What RAM do you have in the machine? What hard disk? More details needed.

To add more info, the fan rarely/never comes on when I'm running just Adium or Safari or any other basic apps. It's getting really bad and writing a paper with this problem is a bitch.

Would reinstalling Tiger do anything or would that be a big waste of time?

Reinstalling the OS never hurts. You'd probably want to go ahead and back up your data with the superdrive, then do an Erase & Install, then apply all the patches before you install anything, then install your programs.

That way, you can minimize conflicts as much as humanly possible. If that doesn't help, call Apple. From the looks of it, you're still well within your 1 year warranty.

Yea. I just reinstalled the OS (I didn't do the Erase and Install, just the archive, don't have time right now to back everything up), it hasn't done it again yet. Hopefully this worked, but I'm still under warranty, bought the 3 yr plan, so if it does it again I'll be going to the store this week. thanks though.
