i was given a 14' ibook G4 1ghz (i know i'm very lucky lol), but i was told it needed a new logic board. a piece of the ac adapter input had been broken off inside where the ibook charges. once the piece was removed with some precision and a new charger put to work the port would no longer work. the person whom i got the computer from took it to Comp USA and was told they'd have 2 replace the logic board for around 800 dollars. instead of dishing out 800 dollars on a new logic board for the old ibook they went and purchused a brand new Powerbook G4 15 inch and gave me the ibook.

i kno the whole computer is in working order except for that piece because i was there the exact second the battery died and i kno it works fine.

i was looking on the online apple store and noticed u could buy external batteries for the G4, but they didnt specify exactly where those batteries plug in to comp. is it the usb or firewire ports? or does it plug into the piece that was broken? also, would that battery be able 2 be plugged into the wall charging and also plugged into my g4 powering it simultanously?

if anyone could help, i'd be very greatful.

The piece which would have the broken adaptor plug in it would be the DC board.
These are relatively cheap to buy and I would try replacing that first rather than shelling out for a new logic board considering the old one's 'fine'.

Have a look for a DC input board on eBay for the iBook and then use the guide from pbfixit.com to disassemble and re-assemble the iBook.

Good Luck

i just ordered the piece from ebay and i will be taking it apart and putting the dc board in within the next few days. hopefully my next reply to this post will be from a functional i-book.

the G3 has dual USB's and a firewire if that information helps at all.
