Hi Everybody:

My sister recently had her PC laptop stolen and decided to replace it with a Mac and wants me to help her choose a good used model. I've purchased this on eBay---and though I'm pretty sure it's a good deal, I'm not really a Mac person. Can you let me know if this was a good buy or provide any other comments on this purchase?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi,

Sorry, but I think it's a little too much for the package. But what can you do, winning the auction is a contract.

I think that at best, the total value of the package is probably around $1700-$1800.

Really? Even considering all the accesories? (17" display, 60GB add'l harddrive, port replicator, hub, mice, etc.?) Not to mention the one-stop shopping and no sales tax?

You did get a lot of extras so I'd say $2,500's acceptable. Besides you could always resell some of those accessories and recover some of your expenses.

For future reference, the "hot deals" section of the Apple Store website usually has affordable one-or-two generation-old machines available pretty cheap - and with full warranty.
