I have my 12" hooked up to a 23" display. How do I get the desktop on just the 23" display? I don't want mirroring. I've done it a couple of times by accident...also, I set up a wireless network, how do I protect it so that others cannot use it? Like, can I set a password, or perhaps a pay service where they get charged by the minute or something? That would be awesome...

Thanks, Tom

To use the powerbook in clamshell mode (where the lid is closed and everything is on the external) you put the powerbook to sleep by closing the lid, then connect a usb mouse and click it to wake the system up. Everything will now be displayed on the external.

As for the wireless, you can setup access control (where people need a password) using your router's configuration tools (look up your router's website to see if they have any FAQ's on it). Search for WEP or WPA on google for some more basic overviews.

i do this all the time when i am at home.

i also read that the screen should be left open, atleast enough for air to circulate around the keyboard keys since that is one of the ways the powerbook stays cool.

go to system preferences>>network>> (if airport is selected) click configure below the selection box>> click the TCP/IP tab..

then in the list of details it should say Router: (and insert number here) , thats your wireless routers number, if you copy that and paste it into internet explorer(or a web browser in general) then it should take you to your wireless routers main menu configuration page , its built into the router.. from this there should be some kind of setting to set a password to your network!!

hope that helped
