Last night I went to turn on my powerbook and all that happened was that it beeped 3 times and that was it. So I dusted off my old PC to get on the internet to figure out that it was a RAM problem. I read several peoples posts on apples support site of problems with the lower RAM slot. But anyway I decided to move the RAM to the upper slot and that fixed the problem.
Is this something that any of you have run into?
Should I take it in and have my logic board replaced?
Just a little backround info on the computer. My powerbook is only about one month old.
1.5 Ghz PowerPC G4
100 gig Hard Drive
512 MB DDR SDRam (factory installed)
Thanks for you help

Are you positive it's the RAM slot? Maybe the powerbook was jostled and the chip was unseated properly.

I am not positive. I was just so happy to get it to turn on that i didn't spend to much time troubleshooting or researching the problem. Maybe I will retry the lower Ram slot before I call apple.

I have this problem too. The computer beeps on startup if there is a RAM chip in the bottom slot. Kinda sucks because the computer is swapping a lot now without both chips.
The ethernet has also given out. It's time for a new motherboard.

AFAIK there has been a fairly well documented issue with 15" Alu powerbooks where the lower memory slot suddenly fails. You will find many posts on this issue in Apple's user-to-user discussions ( http://discussions.info.apple.com) if you search in the powerbook area.
I would first confirm that there is a problem with the lower slot. Try re-seating the ram in the lower slot, and confirm that it is seated properly. You may also wish to try the Apple hardware diagnostic utility which is on the restore CD that came with the computer, which may (or may not) confirm a logic board problem. Since you're under warranty there shouldn't be a problem getting this resolved. Be sure to pull any 3rd party ram before sending the unit to Apple.
