Well... I ordered my Powerbook about a week and a half ago. It should be arriving at the local computer store tomorrow or the next day.

Of course, I visited the Apple site earlier this evening and read about the new Powerbooks.

More machine with a smaller price tag.

And I see that the older model that I ordered is now available for up to $600 less.

I'm going to call the computer store tomorrow and talk to them about the situation.

I've made a deposit, but I have not paid for the Powerbook yet.

Do you think they will be merciful?

They should be. Apple themselves have a 14 day return policy. You should just ask them about their return policy, usually people are very reasonable about it. Even if you have to pay a $200 restocking fee, you are still saving $400.

I didn't have any trouble... apparently my Powerbook hadn't even shipped yet (possibly because of the update changeover?) Apparently they were going to send the new version, anyway. My store reps were even able to change my order to add the new 7200rpm hard drive.

Life is good.
