Hi there, :-)

I bought my iMac in the States and was living there for a year, consequently I bought DVD zoned for the US. Now I am home in the UK and am playing UK zoned DVD's. However I have to changed the zone preferences and it states that this can only be done 5 times in total! Is there anyway of avoiding this? They will not play at all if I just ignore the message.

Please help.

Thanks Sharon

if you just play the dvds in VLC then you won't have a problem. another option that you have is to rip the dvd with MacTheRipper onto your hard drive and then you can watch it in any video player that you want.

you do not need a dvd burner for the later solution. you just need a dvd drive, which you have or else you wouldn't be able to watch dvd's on your computer.

Thanks, I got the VLC program but whenever I put in a DVD it automatically opens iDVD and wants me to change the region. These are my computers details
Machine Model: iBook G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.33 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.7f1
Can I 'flash' the drive? If so how do I do that?

I really appreciate your help :-)

open system preferences and select CDs & DVDs. make sure "when you insert a video DVD" and "when you insert a blank DVD" are set to ignore.

After you have done what is listed above, put the VLC icon in your dock. Then open up the dvd you want to play and drag the video_ts folder onto the VLC icon, it will launch and you can watch the dvd. Or if it still gives you a problem about setting the drive region you can rip the disc using mac the ripper and then play back from the hard drive using the same process I listed above, just without the disc.

Dear friends,

Thank you for all your advice. I am now happily playing my North American DVD's alongside my British ones. As an inexperienced user I appreciate your time and effort in trying to help others.

I can't wait for the world to adopt a 'universal' system for technology.
