A quick search led me here for the first time so please forgive a common question if it comes up often. I am interested in buying a 1.3 ghz 12" ibook or 1.5 pbook. I need it for editing digital photos in photoshop, photomechanic and perhaps aperature as well as transmit capabilty. I have a G4 350mhz tower for home use. With all the negative posts made about the recent 12 pbook upgrade and with the coming mactels, would the ibook be the best value for now...and might there be an upgrade coming on the ibooks soon to wait for?
Thanks all for any opinions out there.

An iBook stuffed to the gills with RAM is a good option if you don't mind the limited screen resolution (same as the 12" PowerBook). The iBook meets the minimum requirement for Aperature.

With a 15" PBook you'll get a PCMCIA slot (now called a PC Slot) to transfer pics from compact flash cards to the computer. Also, the extra pixels of the 15" makes Photoshop and Bridge much more comfortable.

Go for a PB15 or 17. The extra screen space is great for imaging and you can go to 2GB of ram. Also, check out Aperature's minimum specs, they're pretty high. I love laptops but I'd suggest you also consider an iMac G5 for your needs.

i think he's comparing the 12" ibook to the 12" powerbook...in which case i have to say go with the iBook, seeing how you could load it up with more ram and the MHz difference is neglible.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Thanks all. I went with the ibook maxed with (free) ram for price, functionalism, durability and its overall value to the pbook, which would have been over $500 for a comparable model. Peripherals I already own, like hard drives and card readers, along with spanning doctor makes the ibook seem the best small laptop for the time being.
