My daughter wants to watch movie trailers that now come in H.264 codex enabled form. Her G3 iBook won't display them due to video card deficiencies. Would a G4 iBook do this, or a 12 inch PowerBook?

Yes and Yes. But don't expect to play the hi-def stuff at a watchable framerate.

Yup as long as it isn't the High Definition stuff it will work fine. There is a noticable performance increase in an iBook G4 over the G3 (comparing my G4 1ghz with a G3 800mhz, the G3 has more ram).

The G3 is useless for H.264. It has nothing to do with her video card.

A G4 iBook will handle 480p (720x480) fine. Like noreturn says though, HD 720p and 1080p will suck on the iBook.
