Not sure if this fits here.. move if necessary:

Here is the situation:

I am using a 12 in rev. d powerbook.. so it has FW400... I have it hooked up to the FW400 port on my Apple display.. one of the ports then hooks to my isight the other hooks to a 3 port fw hub.. hooked to the 2 ports on the fw hub are an elgato eye tv (which as a 200 gig external hooked to it) and the other port as a external dvd burner with another 200 gig external hooked to it.. Now.. I have noticed at times that the entire fw. network will stop working.. I notice this because the isight will stop function at times if i m using multiple devices.. I notice it occurs with the elgato and the external dvdr which in turn causes the hard drive connected to unmount..

Can I be overloading my fw bus? will one device manfunctioning cause all the devices to stop functioning?

any help??

Frank

I believe the iSight has had problems when daisy chained with FW harddrives. Not sure about that though. As for general "overloading" the firewire bus, I think you should be ok. From what I've gathered, two fast, daisy chained hdds might "saturate" your firewire bus (as in, they won't be fast as usual) but there should be no functional problems, just probably a little slow down in speed.

I too have found the iSight to be problematic when daisy-chained to my Firewire 400 audio interface.

The problems have not occurred since I've daisy-chained it to one of my Firewire 800 hard drives...

I recently realized that they fw port on the display isnt powered.. even though all the devices but the isight and the elgato eye tv were powered.. once I rearranged the connections so that they are all connected to the hub.. and the hub to the pb.. there hasnt been any problems..

This is a well known and well documented bug.
Firewire iSight + Firewire iPod (or some other peripherals) + Mac = all sorts of bad behavior

The official solution from Apple: Don't use iSight at the same time as your iPod [or other device] if connecting over FireWire.

Macfixit has at least three articles (here, here, and here) on mitigating the issue.
