My wife's G3 iBook just came back from AppleCare after having the logic board replaced.
It was accompanied by a note which says, "Our analysis has determined that although your Battery no longer has the capacity to function at a level necessary for the optimum operation of your unit, it is not defective." It goes on to explain that only defective batteries are covered by the AppleCare warranty. The battery itself has been removed from the laptop and has a handwritten note on it that says, "Bad battery -- do not put in unit."
Is there any major risk in continuing to use the old battery? I'm not particularly concerned if this just means the battery won't last as long as it used to. But is a worn-out battery at all likely to cause any serious damage?
