My latch stopped working the same day my ALS (Ambiant light sensor) malfuncationed. So I brought it into a local service provider (No apple store in Canada) to get it fixed under warranty. I got a phone call back today informing me they were going to replace the logic board, but that none of the bottom case (where the latch is broken) is covered under warranty. they were planning on charging me almost $400 for parts and labout. I nearly lost it on the phone.

So the dealer's hands are tied because they pay for stuff and get reimbursed by Apple. I called AppleCare and spoke to the first level, and he told me that Apple's Policy is that the bottom case is in no way covered under Warranty. I asked him what if my latch broke 3 weeks after using the computer. his reply was "Did it?" So all I could get out of him was to call customer relations. That's the plan, but I wanted to know if anybody had any tips for dealing with CR, or getting Apple's policies bent.

I found this thread ( http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/258787/dont-break-your-latch-costs-985-a/ ) where a fellow worked awfully hard to get his new computer latch fixed. so I'm thinking this might be tough.

Any past experience or advice is appreciated. Thanks.
