Hi everyone, having been a frequent reader of these forums for several years now i regret that my first contribution has to be about a technical problem. But anyway...

My tibook 550mhz screen is periodically only showing the top third, the lower two thirds freezing and turning white. Moving the screen hinge/tapping it brings the rest of the screen back to normal but not for long.

Could this be a loose wire? Something i could fix? or is this the end of my trusty friend.

Your views would be appreciated.

Sometimes the cables chafe inside the hinge. Apple will send it in for about $300, and have it fixed, but if that's too steep you could look for the parts online and see if you can do it. TiBooks are reasonable machines to work on, though I'm unfamiliar with this repair.

thanks for the advice. I think i will have to bite the bullet and get a new laptop in case i mess up my book trying to fix it, [second worry being is the new 15 inch powerbook worth the extra £400 compared to the current ibook range]. Then i can have a go at taking apart my current tibook to try and fix it.

thanks

took mine to an authorized apple repair place and had the cable assembly replaced for about $150 u.s.... (my pismo that is)

just another option, as opposed to sending it to apple.

I had that issue with my old TiBook. Ended up needing the screen replaced. (It was under warranty though.)
