They're about the same, each is faster for different apps, maybe a small overall lead for the 5200Go.

I would get 12" PowerBook. TiBook has many outdated features and designs, such as 1 GB RAM capacity (and obsolete and harder to find PC133 kind), ATA/66 hard disk interface, no DVD-RW, no 802.11g, no Bluetooth, slower GPU, and no DVI output. And TiBooks tend to have paint peeling out issue.

With those specs, I'd take the 12" (despite the poor screen resolution). The 5200Go supports all of Tiger's effects (Quartz/Core Image/etc).

Memory is not difficult to find for a 1GHz TiBook but it is more expensive. You'll need to upgrade to at least 512MB. It DOES have a DVI Output. Paint peeling wasn't an issue on the 1GHz TiBooks IIRC. USB Bluetooth modules are $30 if you need one.

I'd go with the 15" personally. The 12" doesn't have sound in or DVI and the screen is much smaller. Not sure $1,000 is a competitive price though. I'm looking at flogging my 867MHz TiBook and I thought I'd get about $850 for it. Mine is in perfect condition and has your features plus airport.

The 15" has USB 1.0, the 12" has USB 2.0.

Anything Core Image-related will be disabled in the Titanium (or run in the Altivec unit, if the developer decided to do so). The 12" Powerbook has appropriate hardware (GPU) support, although this is the bare minimum.

what about the usb ports? are they 1 or 2.0?
thanks again, matias
I think they are USB 1.

Are you planning on using a wireless network (in which case you'd be adding airport)? You're definitely going to need another 256mb ram at the minimum. I would suggest another 512 right off the batt. Even with the smaller screen, the 12" sounds like a better deal to me personally. The extra $400 gets you a machine in better condition, airport, dvdrw, and an extra 512mb ram... not to mention the extra 333mhz of processing power. Obviously the cost is screen resolution... but I would still go for the 12" (as a 15" al book owner myself).
