Am I crazy considering a 12" Powerbook?

I'm looking for something to hold me over until the MacIntels come out next year (January?). I want to run this system on my 24" Dell 2405FPW. My currents thoughts are either a 12" Powerbook or a Mac Mini (can't do it with a iBook). Obviously, I'm paying a premium (probably about 2x) for the Powerbook but it sure is "slicker" than the mac mini and of course more portable. Actually though, I don't plan on using it too much away from the house so portability might not be a big concern.

Now, we're hearing that the 12" may be dropped and MacIntels might arrive in January. Any thoughts on what might hold better resale value after the MacIntels arrive? Maybe the 12" Powerbooks will hold extra value if they're dropped?

Finally, any noticeable performance difference between the two?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David

The PB12s are the worst value of any Macs right now. The mini is very close in specs and much cheaper.

Also, why can't you use the spanning hack with an iBook?

I wish I could do that but I don't think the iBooks support the resolution that the 24" Dell supports (1920x1200)? Also, there's no DVI port so I'd have to go with VGA.

How about a mini and a cheap refurb iBook? I think last year's model is going for around $700. That'd bring the total price to not much more than the 12" PB. And you get two computers.

I know what you mean about DVI -- that was the main reason I got a 12" PB instead of the iBook. But back then the price difference was only $200, and I thought it was worth it for the much sharper image on my external display, not to mention the bigger HD, better keyboard, etc.

Interesting suggestion to go for both the mini and the iBook. For some reason that seems a little indulgant but I guess it's probably a better "deal" to get 2 for the price of 1. Of course, that means I'd have 2 computers to eBay when I want to trade in for my MacIntel. Hmm...
