Headphone jack problem (sound from one ear only)

I have a 2 month-old 1.33ghz 12" iBook and as of a few days ago, there is a problem with the headphone jack and sound is only coming out one ear. If I jiggle the connector, I can get it into a position where the sound comes through both, but any tiny movement disturbs that and it's back to one ear. I've tried it with 3 different headphones, so it's definitely the jack.
As I understand it, the headphone jack is attached to the logic board. Is it possible for Apple to fix this without having to replace the logic board, or is this going to be a major ordeal? Anyone have any other options to try?
I always thought this happened only on old, worn-out jacks, so I'm not sure why it's happening on a brand new one. Pretty frustrating though.

Have you checked the sound preferences?

When you posted that I rolled my eyes, but figured I'd check anyway. Sure enough, the output slider was all the way to the left. How in the world that happened, I have no idea. I haven't played with my sound preferences at all.
Thanks for the help.

Tiger has been doing that a lot lately to me as well.
I really can't work out why.

I found that problem on my iBook as well (regarding the random shift of left to right in Sound Preferences). I saw your posting earlier and was about to ask you to check your sound preferences as well. Mine wasn't as extreme as yours though - I just noticed it one day a few weeks ago when I was listening to some sound clips through the integrated speakers... the left/right balance seemed off ... I checked my sound preferences and sure enough they were. I still have no idea how it happened though.
I'm glad your issue was resolved!

If your sound preferences are ok, make sure to check your headphones. Those little cables often degrade to the point where only one side works, or one side works much better than the other. I keep a "known good" pair of cheap headphones around just for checking this sort of thing. To be useful they don't have to sound "good," just the same in both sides.
